Tyrannize (verb)

  1. To exercise power over in a cruel and oppressive way; to dominate and control through fear and abuse of authority.
  2. To use one's power or authority to treat others cruelly or unjustly.

Late 16th century: from french tyranniser or late latin tyrannizare, from latin tyrannus (see tyrant).
