2. Not having had previous experience of.

Origin:

Late 16th century: from un- "not" + familiar.

Examples:

1. The new employee felt unfamiliar with the company's procedures.
2. She found the city unfamiliar and didn't know her way around.
3. He was unfamiliar with the subject and asked for clarification.
4. The climate in the region was unfamiliar to them, so they had trouble adjusting.
