Not having been processed or improved.

Origin:

Late 16th century; formed from the prefix un- and the verb "refine".

Examples:

1. The unrefined oil was not yet fit for use.
2. The unrefined diamond was worth less than a polished one.
3. The unrefined sugar had a coarser texture.
4. The unrefined metal had impurities that needed to be removed.
5. The unrefined performance was raw and lacked finesse.
