Uvula

A small, fleshy extension at the back of the soft palate in the human mouth, which hangs down behind the tongue.
Origin:
Late 16th century: from latin uvula "little grape", diminutive of uva.
Examples:
- The uvula is an important part of the human anatomy, as it helps to protect the airway.
- An uvulitis is an inflammation of the uvula, which can cause difficulty swallowing and other symptoms.
- The uvula is also involved in the production of certain speech sounds such as the "u" sound.
- Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) is a surgical procedure that removes the uvula and part of the soft palate.
