Wheeze (verb)

  1. To breathe with a whistling sound in the chest, as from a narrow or obstructed air passage.
  2. To make a whistling sound as a result of breathing difficulties.

Middle english whezen, from old english hwēsan; akin to old high german hwiosan to whistle.
