Wheezy (adjective)

Having difficulty breathing, especially with a whistling or rattling sound in the chest.

Origin:

Mid 16th century: probably imitative of the sound of breathlessness.

Examples:

1. The old man was wheezy and had to stop and rest often while walking.
2. The child's wheezy breathing was a sign of asthma.
3. The patient's wheezy breathing improved after using the inhaler.
4. The room was filled with the wheezy sound of the man's breathing.
5. The wheezy sound was caused by the bronchitis.
