Windward

Facing or situated in the direction from which the wind is blowing.
Origin:
From middle english 'windewarde', from old english 'windweard', equivalent to wind + -ward. referring to the side or direction from which the wind is blowing.
Examples:
- The sailors faced the windward side of the ship to catch the breeze.
- The trees on the windward side of the island were bent from the constant wind.
- We couldn't start the campfire on the windward side of the hill because the wind was too strong.
