To close one eye briefly as a signal to someone.

Origin:

Middle english winchen, of imitative origin.

Examples:

1. She winked at him as a way of letting him know she was joking.
2. He winked at the bartender to signal that he was ready for another drink.
3. She gave him a knowing wink, as if they shared a secret.
4. He winks every time he sees a pretty girl, trying to flirt with them.
