Compulsive (adjective)

Driven by an irrational urge, especially to repeat a behaviour that is harmful to oneself or others.

Origin:

Late 16th century: from latin compuls- 'forced', from the verb compellare, from com- 'together' + pellere 'to drive'. the noun compulsion dates from the mid 17th century.
