Convict (verb)

  1. Find (someone) guilty of a criminal offence by the verdict of a court or the decision of a jury.
  2. Prove or show (someone) to be guilty of a crime or offence.

Late middle english: from old french convaincre, based on latin convincere "conquer, vanquish" (see convince).
