Relating to or characterized by involuntary muscular contractions and spasms.
Origin:
Late 16th century. from latin convuls- "pulled apart", from the verb convellere, + -ive.
Examples:
- The patient was diagnosed with convulsive seizures.
- The convulsive movements were caused by a neurological disorder.
- The convulsive spasms were so intense that they left the patient exhausted.
- The convulsive fit lasted for several minutes.
