Elliptic (adjective)

Having a shape that is partially or nearly circular with a curvature that is less pronounced than a full circle.

Origin:

Late latin ellipticus, from greek elleipein to leave out, from el- + leipein to leave.

Examples:

1. The elliptic path of the earth around the sun.
2. The elliptic leaf shape.
3. An elliptic orbital motion of a satellite.
4. The elliptic dome of a mosque.
