Having a shape that is partially or nearly circular with a curvature that is less pronounced than a full circle.
Origin:
Late latin ellipticus, from greek elleipein to leave out, from el- + leipein to leave.
Examples:
- The elliptic path of the earth around the sun.
- The elliptic leaf shape.
- An elliptic orbital motion of a satellite.
- The elliptic dome of a mosque.
- An elliptic swimming pool.
