Encounter (verb)

1. Meet (someone) unexpectedly or chance.
2. Meet (someone) in a specific place or situation.
3. Experience or be faced with (something unpleasant or difficult).
4. Come across (something, especially information).
5. Be involved in an occurrence of (something).

Origin:

Middle english (in the sense "meet by chance"): from old french encontrer, from en- "in" + con- "together" + -tre "find".
