- To act as a mediator to try to bring about a peaceful resolution between two groups or parties in a dispute.

- To act as an intermediary between two parties in order to facilitate communication and negotiation.

Late 15th century: from latin mediat- "intervened, gone between", from the verb mediare, from medius "middle".
