Namedrop (verb)

To casually mention the name of a famous or important person, especially in order to impress others.

Origin:

Coined in the 20th century, a combination of "name" and "drop".

Examples:

  1. He was always namedropping, trying to impress people with his connections.
  2. She was guilty of namedropping, always bringing up her famous friends in conversations.
  3. He namedropped to try to get a job with the powerful company.
  4. It was obvious that the actor was namedropping when he mentioned his famous friend in the interview.
