Used to indicate that something happens or is true despite something else.
Origin:
From the phrase "not withstanding" which means in spite of.
Examples:
- Notwithstanding the fact that it was raining, we still decided to go for a walk.
- The company's profits were down this quarter, notwithstanding the increase in sales.
- He was offered the job, notwithstanding his lack of qualifications.
- Notwithstanding her fear of heights, she decided to go skydiving.
