Nuthouse (noun)

A slang term for a mental institution or asylum.

Origin:

Slang, c.1925, of uncertain origin, possibly a shortening of lunatic asylum or an alteration of nut factory.

Examples:

1. The patient was committed to the nuthouse after being diagnosed with severe depression.
2. After years of struggle, the patient was finally released from the nuthouse.
3. The nuthouse was overcrowded and understaffed, making it difficult for the patients to receive proper care.
4. The patient was terrified of being locked up in the nuthouse for the rest of his life.
