- A distinct section of a piece of writing, usually dealing with a single theme and indicated by a new line, indentation, or numbering.
- A mark or symbol used to indicate the beginning of a new paragraph.
Origin:
From ancient greek παράγραφος (parágraphos, “a writing beside”), from παρά (pará, “beside”) + γράφω (gráphō, “i write”).
Examples:
- The essay should have at least three paragraphs.
- I always indent the first line of each paragraph.
