Pupate (verb)

To change from the larval stage to the pupal stage in the life cycle of an insect.

Origin:

From the latin pupa, meaning "doll" or "girl".

Examples:

  1. The caterpillar will pupate before it emerges as a butterfly.
  2. The maggots pupate in soil before they turn into flies.
  3. The dragonfly nymph will pupate before it emerges as an adult dragonfly.
