Scrum (noun)

  1. A method of restarting play in rugby, in which a group of players from each team, bound together, attempt to gain possession of the ball after it has gone out of play.
  2. A method of organizing and managing a software development process, in which a team works in iterations, called sprints, to deliver incremental improvements to the product.

Origin:

The word scrum is derived from the rugby term which was first used in the 1880s, it's origin is uncertain but it may be related to the word scrummage.
