Unsaturated (adjective)

Not having all available bonding sites filled with atoms or groups.

Origin:

Late 19th century; formed from the prefix un- and the adjective "saturated".

Examples:

1. The unsaturated fat was considered healthier than saturated fat.
2. The unsaturated hydrocarbon had a double bond.
3. The unsaturated soil absorbed water easily.
4. The unsaturated solution had a lower concentration of solute.
5. The unsaturated compound had a lower boiling point.
