Handlebar

A bar attached to the steering mechanism of a bicycle or motorcycle on which the rider can rest their hands and steer the vehicle.
Origin:
Late 17th century: from handle + bar.
Examples:
- The handlebar of my bike is a bit loose and needs tightening.
- I always wear gloves when I ride my motorcycle to protect my hands from the heat of the handlebars.
- The handlebar of my racing bike is made from carbon fiber to make it as light as possible.
- I broke the handlebar of my bike when I hit a pothole and went flying over the handlebars.
