Overstock

To have an excessive amount of a particular item or items in stock, often as a result of over-ordering or overestimating demand.
Origin:
Formed from the prefix "over-" meaning "excess" or "beyond" and the root word "stock" meaning "the goods or materials kept on hand by a business", the word "overstock" came into use in the early 20th century.
Examples:
- The store overstocked on winter coats and was unable to sell them all before the end of the season.
- The company overstocked on a new product that ended up not being as popular as they had hoped.
- The shop overstocked on Christmas decorations and had to offer them at a discounted price after the holiday season.
- The warehouse was overstocked with goods and had to rent additional storage space.
- Overstocking can lead to financial losses and wastage.
